WOW - Sr. Amira, this was heart-shaking to say the least. Jazak'Allahu Khairan x 1000 for this. I think we all can improve in this aspect of our lives to some degree, even if it is just the bad thoughts.
I feel very bad after watching this, yet, Shukr'Allah, I haven't gone as far as having an illicit relationship and all that comes with it. I can't imagine how youths, as I mentioned in my other comments, would feel if they saw this. It's true what was said, that some things were not common at all, and now, as the students mentioned, these shameful things are becoming everyday, normal things.
Lastly, I know the show is based on talking about female figures in Islam and related topics, but I think in this case, the issue lowering gaze, while required of both sexes, it is much more of a big problem with guys - I mean, the stories he told of his friend who was being enticed - it is guys who try to encourage their friends who are trying to stay away from such things. So, I found it a bit strange that he was somewhat emphasizing women, when it is really an issue for men more often than not. To support this idea, articles that I read on Imam Suhaib's site, for example, that ayah about lowering gaze, men are mentioned first, so from what I read, it is interpreted that Allah is specifically singling out men FIRST, then women. As women are naturally more shy and modest, but of course, shaytaan tempts both genders. I could be wrong here, so please enlighten me further if necessary.
Keep up the great posts Sis!
Asalamu Alaikum,
Waiyakum. True.
I understand where you are coming from and yes its an issue for both men and women. However I think he was emphasizing women because a lot of times we just think men should lower their gaze but we dont think about our selves and how we should be doing the same. Some of the stuff that I suppose guys talk about like the models in magazine's or actress's and what not girls do it too. They dissect and analyze whos hotter and other various aspects of these people and the part about lowering the gaze never comes to mind. Yet if a girl was told that a guy was looking at pictures of girls in a magazine they would thing such a perv yet these girls themselves do the same but if they do it, its nor pervy at all. Example: When I was in UK there was constant talk about men mostly soccer players who was very well known not just for skills but looks and the girls could sit for hours discussing these men and this to them didn't seem wrong at all. Its not just about people who you dont know personally but after a while it turns to men that they 'know'. About guys enticing their friends unfortunately girls do this too,in the video for men it was about proving manhood for girls its about proving that someone wants them or that they are beautiful etc. Ma'asalam
