The living and the dead

السلام عليكم

The Contrast between a person who glorifies Allah and one who does not remember Him is like that between the living and the dead.
[Bukhari, Muslim]

The Mufarridin

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Once Rasululah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said,
"The mufarridin have gone far ahead."
'Who are the mufarridin' enquired the Sahaba.
Rasululah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied, "Those who are intensively devoted to the zikr of Allah"

To teach or not to teach?

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Whoever teaches the reading of the Quran to his son (without memorizing it), all his sins, whether previous or subsequent, will be forgiven. And whoever makes his child memorize the Quran, will be raised on the Day of Judgement in the appearance of a full moon; and his son will be asked to start reciting, and for every ayat read by the child, the status of the parent will be raised to the next higher grade of Jannat, till the recitation of the Quran is completed.
[Tabarani]
Conversely if you deprive your child of knowledge (of religion) for the sake of a few dollars, not only will you be deprived of eternal reward, but you will be held accountable before Allah. Are you depriving your child of reading the Quran for fear that after memorizing the Quran they will be dependent on others for their living?
Please remember that not only do you expose your children to eternal misery, but you carry a very heavy accountability. A hadith says
"Each one of you is a guardian, and will be questioned about those under his control."
Everyone will be questioned about his subordinates and dependents as to what extent he taught them. As a proverb says, " Should one discard clothes for fear of lice?"
If you share religious education to your child, you will be free from your responsibility.
As long as the child lives whatever good deeds he does, whatever salat he performs, and forgiveness that he seeks from Allah for you will elevate your position in Jannah. If for the sake of this life and for a few dollars you keep him ignorant of deen, not only will you have to suffer for this misdeed but whatever evil and misdeeds he does, your account will not be free from this burden. For God's sake have pity on yourselves. This life in only a passing phase and death will put and end to all its hardships, however great, but the sufferings for which there is no end will be everlasting.
At the end of the day Allah will provide for you if you have faith in him. Your child can be a hafiz and have a worldly education as well.
Sayyidina Abdullah Ibn Masood R.A. relates that I heard
Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) say " The one who reads Suratul Waaqiah every night, poverty will not befall him. (Abu-Yala, Baihaqi)
Don't sell your self out for a couple of bucks. The money wont last but the suffering or joy in the hereafter will.
Make your choice.

O Allah, even if these (wrongdoings) are many they are insignificant in comparison with the magnitude of Your forgiveness. O Allah, any male or female servant of Yours who has rights upon me, in either that I have unjustly taken from him [ghasabtu] in regards to his land, possession, honor, body; whether he was absent or present; or he or his representatives demanded it from me and neither was I able to return it to him nor did I seek release of it from him. So I ask You through Your benevolence, generosity, and abundance of what You possess that You satisfy them on my behalf, and not give them a position over me that will decrease my good deeds; for You possess what You can satisfy them with on my behalf and I do not possess what to satisfy them with; and do not allow for their bad deeds to find a path over my good deeds on the Day of Judgment.

He (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) said: Well, do you indeed feel like that?
We said: Yes.

Sadaqah

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Every day the sun rises charity (Sadaqah) is due on every joint of a person: you administer justice between two men is a charity; and assisting a man to mount his beast, or helping him load his luggage on it is a charity; and a good word is a charity; and every step that you take (towards the mosque) for Salat (prayer) is a charity and removing harmful things from the road is a charity".
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

In Muslim, it is reported on the authority of `Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) that Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Everyone of the children of Adam has been created with three hundred and sixty joints; so he who declares the Glory of Allah (i.e., saying Allahu Akbar), praises Allah (i.e., Al-hamdu lillah), declares Allah to be One (i.e., La ilaha illallah), glorifies Allah, and seeks forgiveness from Allah (i.e., Astaghfirullah), and removes stone, or thorn, or bone from people's path, and enjoins good and forbids evil, to the number of those three hundred and sixty, will walk that day having rescued himself from Hell".

Commentary: This Hadith also tells that even a person who does not have the capacity to pay Sadaqah (charity, alms, propitiatory offerings, etc.) can also pay it in the manner prescribed above and earn its reward. Moreover, he can also pay alms for the joints in his body.

There are three people whose duas are not rejected, the fasting person until he breaks the fast, the just ruler, and the oppressed whose du'a Allah lifts above the clouds and opens the doors of the heavens, and Allah says, 'I swear by My honor, verily I shall assist you even though it may be after some time."
[Ahmad, Tirmidhi]

There is still time

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Ramadan, the blessed month has come to you, wherein Allah turns towards you and sends down to you His special mercy, forgives faults, accept prayers, looks at your competitions for the greatest good and boasts to His angels about you. So show your righteousness to Allah. Verily the most pitiable and unfortunate is the one who is deprived of Allah's mercy this month.

Reading Quran

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
994.
`Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "
The one who is proficient in the recitation of the Qur'an will be with the honourable and obedient scribes (angels) and he who recites the Qur'an and finds it difficult to recite, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have a double reward.''

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: Proficient here means one who reads the Qur'an in accordance with the rules of "Ilm At-Tajwid'' (the science of the recitation of the Qur'an) as is evidenced from the words of Imam Bukhari's narration and the title given to the chapter. This Hadith also highlights the merit of the reader of the Qur'an who does not know `Ilm At-Tajwid, and for that reason cannot read it fluently. But in spite of this, he reads it with great effort. He will be given double reward, one for the difficulty encountered in reciting it, and another for reading it. Safratun translated in the Hadith as scribes (angels) mean the angels that convey the Wahy (Revelation) to the Messenger of Allah. Imam Bukhari has taken it to mean "one who makes reconciliation''. The angels who bring Wahy and chastisement from Allah.

Clean your heart

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
" When a person commits a sin, a black spot forms on his heart. When he sincerely repents, it is removed, otherwise it stays. When he again commits a sin another spot forms until his heart becomes completely black. Thereafter no good can reach his heart."

Ramadan 16

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ

1242. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "If any one of you forgetfully eats or drinks (while observing fasting) he should complete his Saum (fasting), for Allah has fed him and given him to drink.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: This Hadith tells us of a kindness and convenience of Islam that during the Saum if a person inadvertently does any such thing which destroys his Saum, i.e., eating, drinking, etc., his Saum will remain intact due to forgetfulness, provided one abandons the act as soon as he remembers that he is observing Saum . He needs not make any expiation for such a Saum.

Ramadan 15

السلام عليكم

Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "
He who provides a fasting person something with which to break his fast, will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast, without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter.''
[At-Tirmidhi].

Ramadan 14

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ

1241. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "If one does not eschew lies and false conduct, Allah has no need that he should abstain from his food and his drink.''
[Al-Bukhari].

Commentary: This Hadith exhorts those observing Saum to fulfill all the requirements of fasting. One should not conduct himself in such a manner that on the one side he observes Saum and on the other he is fearless of Allah. To save himself from Allah's Wrath and to get the reward of the fasts, one must abstain from all sorts of vices, such as cheating, lying, backbiting, and using obscene language. The threat held against such people in this Hadith should make them fear that their Saum will go waste and they would be deprived of its reward. It does not mean that such people should start eating and drinking during Saum but what is intended is that they should save themselves from all kinds of sins so that they may earn the reward of Saum.

Ramadan 13

السلام عليكم

[At-Tirmidhi].

Commentary: The person who breaks the Saum in its early time is best loved by Allah because he is a true follower of the Prophet (PBUH).

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Inviolable Rights

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ
" O Allah, I declare inviolable the rights of two weak ones: the orphans and women."
[An-Nas'i]

Commentary:
The poor are generally treated callously in human society. Women and orphans are regular victims of this cruelty. They are deprived of their share in property to which they are entitled under the Islamic law. In some cases their properties are usurped and they are maltreated at the hands of usurpers. The Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) has threatened them with serious consequences to prevent the Muslims from committing such injustice.
The attitude of Muslims and the teachings of Islam in this matter are two different things. How can Islam be blamed for the attitude of Muslims? It is time Muslims should understand that Islam is getting a bad name because of their bad conduct. As a result of this they are committing a double crime. On the one hand, they are guilty of usurping others of their legitimate rights and perpetrating cruelties, and on the other, disgracing their religion. In other words, rather than preaching Islam they are creating obstacles in the way of people joining the fold of Islam. May Allah grant us guidance to follow the right path. Ameen!
