Which Ayah in Allah's Book is the greatest

The Messenger of Allah
said: "Abu Mundhir! Do you know which Ayah in Allah's Book is the greatest?" I replied: " It is Allah la ilaha illa Huwal-Haiyul-Qayum (Allah! none has the right to be worshiped but He, the Ever Living..." (2:256) Thereupon he
(صلى الله عليه و سلم ) patted me in the chest and said, "Rejoice by this knowledge, O Abu Mundhir!"
[Muslim]

Commentary: The words cited in the Hadith occur in the beginning of Ayat-ul-Kursi (No.256 of Surat Al-Baqarah of the holy Qur'an)

Al-Mu'awwidhatain

The Messenger of Allah
used to seek protection against the evil of jinn and the evil eyes till Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas were revealed. After the were revealed, he took to them for seeking Allah's protection and left everything else besides them.
[At-Tirmidi]

Commentary: These Surah are also called 'Al-Mu'awwidhatain' which mean two Surah which provide protection. It is, therefore very useful to seek the protection of Allah by reciting them.

Ramadan 10

1241. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "If one does not eschew lies and false conduct, Allah has no need that he should abstain from his food and his drink.''

[Al-Bukhari].

Commentary: This Hadith exhorts those observing Saum to fulfill all the requirements of fasting. One should not conduct himself in such a manner that on the one side he observes Saum and on the other he is fearless of Allah. To save himself from Allah's Wrath and to get the reward of the fasts, one must abstain from all sorts of vices, such as cheating, lying, backbiting, and using obscene language. The threat held against such people in this Hadith should make them fear that their Saum will go waste and they would be deprived of its reward. It does not mean that such people should start eating and drinking during Saum but what is intended is that they should save themselves from all kinds of sins so that they may earn the reward of Saum.

O Allah, even if these (wrongdoings) are many they are insignificant in comparison with the magnitude of Your forgiveness. O Allah, any male or female servant of Yours who has rights upon me, in either that I have unjustly taken from him [ghasabtu] in regards to his land, possession, honor, body; whether he was absent or present; or he or his representatives demanded it from me and neither was I able to return it to him nor did I seek release of it from him. So I ask You through Your benevolence, generosity, and abundance of what You possess that You satisfy them on my behalf, and not give them a position over me that will decrease my good deeds; for You possess what You can satisfy them with on my behalf and I do not possess what to satisfy them with; and do not allow for their bad deeds to find a path over my good deeds on the Day of Judgment.

Ramadan 3

1216.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "
He who spends a pair in the way of Allah will be called from the gates of Jannah: `O slave of Allah! This gate is better for you' and one who is constant in Salat (prayer), will be called from the Gate of Salat; and whoever is eager in fighting in the Cause of Allah, will be called from the Gate of Jihad; and who is regular in observing Saum will be called from Ar-Raiyan Gate. The one who is generous in charity will be called from the Gate of Charity.'' Abu Bakr (May Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah (PBUH)! May my mother and father be sacrificed for you! Those who are called from these gates will stand in need of nothing. Will anybody be called from all of those gates?'' He replied, "Yes, and I hope that you will be one of them.''

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The five blessings

"My ummah was given 5 things for Ramadan, which were not given to anyone.
(1) The smell from the mouth of a fasting person is sweeter to Allah the that of musk.
(2) The fish in the sea seeks forgiveness for the fasting persons until they break their fast.
(3) Allah prepares and decorates a special garden in paradise everyday and then says (to it). " The time is near when faithful servants will set aside the great trials of the world and come to you."
(4) In this month evil minded Saitan is chained so people can not reach those evils which they normally reach during other months.
(5) On the last night of Ramadan they are forgiven." The Sahaba inquired, " O Messenger of Allah
(صلى الله عليه و سلم ); is the last night Laylatul Qadr?
Rasulullah
(صلى الله عليه و سلم ) replied, " No. But it is the right that a servant is given his reward when he completes his service."
[Ahmed, Bazzar, Bayhaaqi]

Ramadan 2

1215. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah the Exalted and Majestic said: `Every act of the son of Adam is for him, except As-Siyam (the fasting) which is (exclusively) for Me, and I will reward him for it.' Fasting is a shield. When anyone of you is observing fast, he should neither indulge in obscene language nor should he raise his voice; and if anyone reviles him or tries to quarrel with him, he should say: `I am fasting.' By Him in Whose Hand the soul of Muhammad is, the breath of one observing Saum is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk. The one who fasts, experiences two joys: he feels pleasure when he breaks the fast. He is joyful by virtue of his fast when he meets his Rubb.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

In a narration by Al-Bukhari, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Allah says: `(The person observing Saum) has abstained from food and drink, and sexual pleasures for My sake; fasting is for Me, and I will bestow its reward. Every good deed has ten times its reward'.''

In a narration by Muslim, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The reward of every (good) deed of a person is multiplied from ten to seven hundred times. Allah (SWT) says: `The reward of observing Saum is different from the reward of other good deeds; Saum is for Me, and I Alone will give its reward. The person observing Saum abstains from food and drink only for My sake.' The fasting person has two joyous occasions, one at the time of breaking his fast, and the other at the time of meeting his Rubb. Surely, the breath of one observing Saum is better smelling to Allah than the fragrance of musk.''

Al-Baqara
O you who believe! Observing As-Saum (the fasting)[] is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious - see V.2:2). (183) [Observing Saum (fasts)] for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, (e.g. an old man), they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a Miskîn (poor person) (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, is better for you if only you know.[] (184) The month of Ramadân in which was revealed the Qur'ân, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion (between right and wrong). So whoever of you sights (the crescent on the first night of) the month (of Ramadân i.e. is present at his home), he must observe Saum (fasts) that month, and whoever is ill or on a journey, the same number [of days which one did not observe Saum (fasts) must be made up] from other days. Allâh intends for you ease, and He does not want to make things difficult for you. (He wants that you) must complete the same number (of days), and that you must magnify Allâh [i.e. to say Takbîr (Allâhu-Akbar; Allâh is the Most Great) for having guided you so that you may be grateful to Him.[] (185)

"The one who is proficient in the recitation of the quran will be honorable and obedient scribes(angels) and he who recited the quran, doing his best to recite it in the best way possible, will have double reward."
[Al Bukhari and Muslim]
Note: Proficient here means one who reads the Quran in accordance with the rules of Ilm At-Tajwid. The hadith also highlights the merit of the reader of the Quran who does not know Ilm At-Tajwid and for that reason cannot read fluently. but in spite of this, he reads it with great effort. He will be given double reward, one for difficulty encountered in reciting it, another for reading it. Safratun translated in the Hadith as scribes (angels) mean the angels that convey the Wahy (Revelation) to the Messenger of Allah
. Imam Bukhari has taken it to mean "One who makes reconciliation". The angels who bring Wahy and chastisement from Allah.

Dua For Sick Person

When the Prophet (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) visited any ailing member of his family, he would touch the sick person with his right hand and would supplicate:
"Allahumma Rab-ban-nasi, adhhibil-ba'sa, washfi, An-tash-Shafi, la shifa'a, illa shifa'uka, shifaan la yughadiru saqaman
[O Allah! the raab of mankind! Remove this disease and cure (him or her)! You are the Great Curer. There is no cure but through You, which leaves behind no disease]."
[Al Bukhari and Muslim]
Note: The word 'Ya'udu' (inquired about the patients health or visited) occurs in the Hadith text quoted by Imaam An-Nawawi. But according to Al-Bukhari this word is 'yuawwidu' which say Ibn Hajar is synonymous to the word 'yarqee' (blew over the patient)

"When a Muslim visits a sick Muslim at dawn, seventy thousand angels keep on praying for him till dusk. If he visits him in the evening, seventy thousand angels keep on praying for him till the morning; and he will have (his share of) reaped fruits in Jannah."

Dua for protection against mischeif

When the Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) feared mischief from people, he would supplicate:
'Allahumma inna naj'aluka fi nuhurihim, wa na'udhu bika min shururihim
(O Allah! We ask You to face them and seek Your Protection against their evil.)

Al-Maeda
O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allâh as just witnesses and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. Be just: that is nearer to piety, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is Well-Acquainted with what you do. (8) Allâh has promised those who believe (in the Oneness of Allâh - Islâmic Monotheism) and do deeds of righteousness, that for them there is forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise) (9)

Seven Things

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه و سلم ) commanded us to do seven things:
to visit the sick, to follow the funeral (of a dead believer), to invoke the Mercy of Allah upon one who sneezes (ie. by saying to him: Yarhamuk-Allah), to support the weak, to help the oppressed, to promote the greeting of 'As-Salamu ' Alaikum', and to help those who swear to do something to keep their oaths.

What does a good slave say?

What does a good slave say? He says, “Yes, Master.” Most of us are not good slaves to Allah. We are told to do something, and we ask, “Why?” Instead, our attitude should be, “You say: ‘Jump,’ I say: ‘How high?’”

Those who disbelieve

Al-Baqara
Verily, those who disbelieve, it is the same to them whether you (O Muhammad Peace be upon him ) warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe. (6) Allâh has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearings, (i.e. they are closed from accepting Allâh's Guidance), and on their eyes there is a covering. Theirs will be a great torment. (7) And of mankind, there are some (hypocrites) who say: "We believe in Allâh and the Last Day" while in fact they believe not. (8) They (think to) deceive Allâh and those who believe, while they only deceive themselves, and perceive (it) not! (9) In their hearts is a disease (of doubt and hypocrisy) and Allâh has increased their disease. A painful torment is theirs because they used to tell lies. (10) And when it is said to them: "Make not mischief on the earth," they say: "We are only peacemakers." (11) Verily! They are the ones who make mischief, but they perceive not. (12) And when it is said to them (hypocrites): "Believe as the people (followers of Muhammad Peace be upon him , Al-Ansâr and Al-Muhajirûn) have believed," they say: "Shall we believe as the fools have believed?" Verily, they are the fools, but they know not (13) And when they meet those who believe, they say: "We believe," but when they are alone with their Shayâtin (devils - polytheists, hypocrites), they say: "Truly, we are with you; verily, we were but mocking." (14) Allâh mocks at them and gives them increase in their wrong-doings to wander blindly. (15) These are they who have purchased error for guidance, so their commerce was profitless. And they were not guided. (16) Their likeness is as the likeness of one who kindled a fire; then, when it lighted all around him, Allâh took away their light and left them in darkness. (So) they could not see. (17) They are deaf, dumb, and blind, so they return not (to the Right Path). (18) Or like a rainstorm from the sky, wherein is darkness, thunder, and lightning. They thrust their fingers in their ears to keep out the stunning thunderclap for fear of death. But Allâh ever encompasses the disbelievers (i.e. Allâh will gather them all together). (19) The lightning almost snatches away their sight, whenever it flashes for them, they walk therein, and when darkness covers them, they stand still. And if Allâh willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. Certainly, Allâh has power over all things. (20)

Alif-Lâm-Mîm. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'ân and none but Allâh (Alone) knows their meanings] (1)This is the Book (the Qur'ân), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqûn [the pious and righteous persons who fear Allâh much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allâh much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)]. (2) Who believe in the Ghaib[] and perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), and spend out of what we have provided for them [i.e. give Zakât, spend on themselves, their parents, their children, their wives, etc., and also give charity to the poor and also in Allâh's Cause - Jihâd,]. (3) And who believe in (the Qurân and the Sunnah)[] which has been sent down (revealed) to you (Muhammad Peace be upon him ) and in that which we sent down before [the Taurât (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel), etc.] and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter. (Resurrection, recompense of their good and bad deeds, Paradise and Hell,) (4) They are on (true) guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful. (5)

Firewood only

"Zikr moisten the heart and softens it. A heart that is devoid of zikr becomes dry and hard, due to the excessive heat of lust and desires. All parts of the body likewise become stiff and abstain from submission to Allah; if you try to bend them, they break like a dry piece of wood, which can be used as firewood only."
