My mission and maybe yours too

السلام عليكم
بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ

After reading maghrib salah today I was just sitting on the musallah(prayer rug) thinking about the way I pray. I thought about the story of a man who went to sell an object and when he showed it to the buyer the man said he would give so and so money. The seller asked why so little? The buyer who was an expert in his field began to point out flaws in the product. The seller began to cry. The buyer became alarmed and said okay I will give you so and so but don’t cry. The seller said that is not why I am crying. I am crying because I am thinking about my salah. The seller is wondering if Allah will accept his salah.*

Think about the way you pray.

Does your mind wander, do you make mistakes in your recitation, forget which rakaat you are on, etc?

Our salah is one of the very first things we will be asked about, if it is well then everything else will be easy as well** but if it is not then.. may Allah have mercy on you.

What can we do? How can we save our selves?

Did you know that if there is an discrepancy in your salah then Allah will tell the angels to see if you have any nafl(optional) salah and those will be used to fill the discrepancy.*** So my dear brothers and sisters I have an idea.

What if every day you prayed 2 nafl salah.

(If you already read so n so amount add two more)

Gradually you can increase it but lets start with two inshallah. Imagine, these 2 nafl can be the difference between hell and heaven for you. They can help determine your fate. You can pray them like right after you come out of the shower in the morning that way you have wudhu as it is. I'm sure 5 minutes for this will be well worth it in the akirah. Or at night before bed when you are reading surah ya-seen and other surahs that have great rewards for being read before bed. This is my mission.(mission sounds better then goal heh) To pray two (more) rakaats everyday inshallah until it becomes habit.

Why don’t you try this with me?

I will inshallah be there for you if you need encouragement, advice or anything else.

We can do this together.

Who’s with me?

*I read this story in a kitaab years ago. I wrote it from memory so its paraphrased. The original story is very beautiful inshallah I will look for it and post it up.

** & *** I also read these in a kitaab. I don’t remember which one so again I will look for them and post it.

Edit: **& ***= "The first of his deeds, for which a man will be taken into account on the Day of Resurrection, will be his Salat. If it is sound, he will be saved and successful; but if it is corrupt, he will be unfortunate and miserable. If any deficiency is found in his (obligatory) Salat,
Allah will say: '
Look at My slave, whether he has any Nafl Salat so that what is lacking in the (obligatory) Salat may be made up by it.'
Then the rest of his actions Saum , Zakat, etc will be also dealt with in a similar manner."
[Tirmidhi]

I am still looking for the story as unfortunately I do not remember which book it is in. If you have read it before please let me know.

subhanAllah the last few weeks I have made it my mission to pick two sunnah prayers and do them every day. I picked the two after Isha as this is a good time for me. I'm so glad to hear there are others doing this and I am REALLY excited! What a great idea sister mashaAllah, may we all encourage each other to do good ameeeeeeeen!

I think the little steps do make it easier :-) This just makes me want to be even more firm about it. Jazakillah khair sister!

Asalamu Alaikum, Ameen, & waiyakum. Mashallah that's great! Same here I'm hoping that when one knows your not alone its easier to keep it up and the support from each other inshallah can help motivate when your starting to slack. Inshallah I'm going to look for hadiths that show why reading nafl is so great and will put them on automatic updates that way if I get busy or something you guys can still have something to encourage you. May Allah swt make it easy for you and I to read our salah correctly and may He accept our salah. Ameen
